“Is today the day things change?”
Lots of parents worry about their child’s future. But when your child has PC, there’s a deeper anxiety — a nagging question always in the background:
Is today the day things change?
Back when our daughter Audrey was four or five, we were on a family trip touring a historic fort. She was running, playing, having a great time. Suddenly, she stopped. She burst into tears and cried out, “My foot, my foot.”
We froze. Could this be the moment we’ve been dreading since her PC diagnosis? The beginning of the pain that could rob her of her childhood, her happiness, her future?
As it seemed our greatest fear was coming true, we held her and tried not to panic. We were in tears, our minds racing, when we noticed … it was just a splinter.
But that experience stayed with us as a reminder of just how fragile life can feel when your child lives with a rare disease like PC.
Audrey is a few years older now. She’s confident. She’s athletic. She’s still doing the things she loves. For that we are incredibly grateful. But how long will this last?
Every time she limps after a game, we wonder.
Every time she’s tired or sore, we worry.
That’s why we support PC Project. PC Project is the only organization 100% focused on helping PC families like ours. Thanks to PC Project, we have a loving community to help us through whatever challenges the future may bring.
Most importantly, PC Project is the best chance we have at finding a cure and ending the pain for good.
But they can’t do it alone?
You can help by:
1. Sharing your PC story on social media with the hashtags #EndThePain and #PCAwareness.
2. Making a gift to support the research and care that families like ours depend on. (All gifts in June are double-matched!)
The more people who understand what it’s really like to live with PC, the stronger our PC community becomes — and the sooner we can end the pain. Thank you for being a part of that hope!
With love,
Aaron Klein, Barbara Feinstein, Mia, and Audrey
