PC Supporter Runs Windsor Half Marathon to Raise Awareness and Funds for PC Patients

Samantha Hassen is an excellent example of raising awareness for PC! She does not have PC herself, but some of her dear family members do. Sam trained for months and then ran the Windsor Half Marathon on September 29 to raise funds for PC research.
According to Sam, “The run went actually really well – the course was hillier than I expected but the sun was shining and so many lovely people turned up to cheer everyone on. I managed to complete the race in 2hr 38min – slow but steady! A brilliant first half marathon experience, made all the better knowing it was for such a good cause.
Thanks to everyone’s help, we managed to raise £1,065 for PC Project. I hope this goes some small way to supporting the charity in bringing sufferers and their families together.”
As Sam trained and raised money in the months before the marathon, she wrote, “I have seen firsthand how this disease debilitates. Casual summer walks cut short because the sufferer can no longer stand; hours spent in high street shops trying to find shoes that the wearer can tolerate beyond a few hours; countless trips to doctors and podiatrists who shrug and scratch their heads. Not to mention the extra costs accumulated through tons of creams, painkillers, and antiseptics – none of which bring relief.
I am running the Windsor half marathon for those whom long distance running will never be possible as a result of PC. Anyone who knows me well knows I’m no runner, but I am happy to become one in order to bring my family one tiny step closer to a cure.
All funds raised will go to the Pachyonychia Congenita Project Europe (PC Project Europe), which does such an important job not only leading the world’s research on finding a cure and bringing awareness to this disease, but also creating a community where sufferers can be seen and heard.”
Thank you, Sam, for running for those who cannot run. But with your help, someday we will!
